DRY YOUR EYES

I can still recall the day
I heard my daughter cry.
She didn’t want for me to leave.
She could not say goodbye.
She said, “I love you, Daddy,
And I want for you to stay.
My heart is sad when you are gone,
So please don’t go away.”

Dry your eyes, my baby.
I’ve got to earn my pay,
But I’ll bring you some loving
When I come home from work today.
There’ll be lots of time to hold you
As you’re growing through the years.
So dry your eyes, my baby.
There’s no need to shed those tears.

The years went by and as she grew,
My daughter came to know
That I was always there for her,
And that I loved her so.
But even so, there still were times
When she’d ask me to stay.
Then I would sit her on my knees,
And I would gently say.

So many years have gone by now.
My daughter’s fully grown.
She’s become a woman with
A daughter of her own.
I heard on day her daughter said,
”Mommy, please don’t go away.”
Then as she held her in her arms,
I heard my daughter say.
