LIVING PROOF

They met when they were Seniors.
It seems so long ago.
Two kids so sure that love
Was guaranteed to grow.
When passion overcame them
They gave in to desire.
Two young lovers taken in
By love’s all-consuming fire.

They planned on getting married,
But then he came to see
He wasn’t really ready
For how their lives would be.
He told her it was over
And drove her heart to tears.
Then he turned away and left her
And forgot her through the years.

Even now her love is true,
Though he was so unkind
When he told her they were through
And that she’d forget in time.
But she knows that’s not the truth,
For in the child he never met,
She’s got living proof
There’s some love’s you can’t forget.

She lives her life alone now
With just her little girl.
She wonders if she found him,
Would they fit into his world?
She decides that it’s not worth it,
For she has come to see
Though he chose to now be with them,
Part of him will always be.
