There’s been at least a time or two
I’ve almost gotten over you,
But memories of the past get in the way,
But even so, my heart’s been strong
And I’ll be fine before too long.
Don’t worry, dear. No, really, I’m okay.
Yes it’s true, I sometimes cry
When I recall your last goodbye,
Though I can’t say how many teardrops fell.
And yet, these days I’m doing fine,
Though I’ve still got you on my mind.
I’m still alone, and yet, I’m doing well.
I’ve been trying hard to forget you,
And sometimes there’s days
When I wish I’d never met you,
But then I never would have known
The love I once had for my own.
So I’ll be thankful for what time we had.
I guess you’ve probably heard somehow
There’s someone new in my life now.
She’s always there to lend a helping hand.
She knows what I’m going through
And how my heart won’t let go of you,
But even so, she assures me she understands.
