DON'T WALK AWAY

On a bench in the park,
I was sitting alone,
Just watching the children at play.
A cool northern breeze
Was rustling the leaves when
You walked by and smiled my way.

You were lovely and free
And you were staring at me
And that’s why I just had to say
“Please, come sit by my side,
And tell me your name.
Please, miss, don’t walk away.”

Don’t walk away, just sit here with me.
Just for today, and maybe you’ll see
If we take the time, we could be friends,
So don’t walk away before it begins.

You sat down beside me
And told me your name.
Together, we watched the children at play.
You said you were lonely,
In need of a friend,
And we sat and talked through the day.

Since that day I’ve been in love
And now I know you feel the same
‘Cause you and I were married only yesterday.
Now I think back to when
I asked your name, and then you said,
“Don’t worry, I won’t walk away.”

Don’t walk away, just sit here with me,
Just for today, and maybe you’ll see,
If we take the time, we could be friends,
Just don’t walk away, before it begins.
