THE CRUELTY OF TIME

Time is so cruel to have
Come between us for so long.
Our lives were once as one,
Yet now are torn apart.
The distance separates us
As the ocean does the continents.
Our hearts speak not of love,
But instead, of having lost.
The love which we once shared
Lies dashed upon the rocks,
Or perhaps it is only suspended
In our minds, beyond our grasp.
Reality is but a dream,
And my dreams fly with the wind
To a distant patch of paradise
Where we may evade
The cruelty of time.
