REFLECTIONS IN HER TEARS

I sat beneath the trees
As the wind blew lightly
Across the dark, moonlit valley.
Quiet, peaceful solitude
Surrounded me completely
And I felt such comfort
As I sat there gazing at the stars.
I sat there alone in the night,
Smiling within at the beauty
I had found in the valley,
Until I felt a presence.
I felt as if I were no longer alone,
And although I heard nothing,
I knew she was there
Long before I ever saw her.
She wore a long, flowing gown of white
Which seemed to glow in the moonlight.
She walked across the grass slowly, quietly,
As if life held nothing for her.
Then she began to look around,
And when her eyes caught mine, she stopped,
And I thought at first she might speak,
But then I saw in her eyes
The reflections of moonlight
In her tears.
