CHRISTMAS ALONE

The snow starts falling down outside,
The first I’ve seen in years.
I just set up my Christmas tree,
And then the snow appears.

I’ve placed your gifts beneath the tree,
Right there with all the rest.
The table will be set for you.
You’re my most welcome guest.

I wait, but still you’ve not arrived,
So I turn off the lights.
I sit alone here in the dark,
Like all the other nights.

In time I’ll pack away the tree
And all the gifts I bought.
I wonder if you’ll come next year,
But I think maybe not.
