DISTANT SOUNDS

I see the lightning’s flashes and
I hear the thunder’s roar.
It frightens me that they might be
The distant sounds of war.

Already it’s apparent that
The worst is yet to come.
The start of these hostilities
May be the end of some.

I pray for all the fine young men
And women over there.
In spite of all the protests let
Them know that some do care.

Please let it all be over soon,
Then once they’ve done their part,
As they come home I’ll greet them with
Old Glory and my heart.
