LOOK AT THE MESS I’M IN

I’ve got to keep moving, keep her off my mind.
I’ve let her drive me crazy for the very last time.
The woman broke my heart and slammed my face in the door.
I tell myself I won’t, but I keep coming back for more.
I know I’m getting set to take a fall once again,
But I can’t seem to stop, so now look at the mess I’m in.

She looks at me and I don’t even know what to say.
I know that I should turn around and just walk away.
Even though she’s mean to me, I can’t get enough.
I keep hoping she’ll have sympathy and we’ll fall in love.

I tell myself that there’s a lesson here to be learned.
If you’re going to play with her boy, you’re going to get burned.
If you fall in love with her, you’ll discover it’s true.
She’s good at breaking hearts, and she will break yours too.
Everybody says I ought to put my love on a shelf,
And though I know they’re right, you know I can’t help myself.

I tell myself I’m going to have to make that girl mine,
Even though I know she’s not the marrying kind.
Yet even so, I’m going to have to give it a try,
And I’ll probably keep going until the day I die.

Dealing with this girl is keeping me so confused.
You know, she’s got my heart feeling battered and bruised.
I know I should give up, but I don’t know how to stop.
I keep hoping some day I can come out on top.
