LOVE HER ENOUGH FOR BOTH OF US

You weren’t really ready when the child came along.
She was born in July, and by March you were gone.
You said you needed time to straighten things out in your mind.
Okay, I’ll admit it, you gave it a try,
But you gave up too soon when you told us goodbye,
But don’t you worry about us, because we’ll be just fine.

No don’t you worry about the baby and me.
We’ll get along just fine, wait and see.
Go ahead and go on your own if you feel that you must,
Because I’m going to love her enough for both of us.

It doesn’t matter what you’re doing now,
We’ve managed to make it without you somehow.
I guess I was stronger than either of us thought I could be.
So you can go partying every night.
Don’t worry about us, because we’ll be all right.
I’ll try to be happy for you, now that you’re free.

I hope that you’re happy with the choices you’ve made,
But if you reflect on the price that you’ve paid,
Perhaps you’ll decide that it’s not the way you want it to be.
If you should need someone to hold you at night,
When life does you wrong and you can’t make it right,
Remember that you’ve got your friends, so don’t come running to me.
