WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

(This is a song that was written to be a duet. The female parts are italicized.)

What would you say, if suddenly, out of the blue,
A woman that you’ve never met just walked up to you
And told you her name, and all about our love affair?
There’s no reason I ask. No, there’s no need to be scared.

I guess I’d be surprised if a woman walked up to me
And said that she loved you, and wanted for you to be free.
I guess I might feel my life fall apart at the seams,
But I’d say thank you for putting a face to the girl in his dreams.

What would you say if I told you that her claim was true,
And we’d been going out now for maybe a month or two?
I guess it would be enough to drive our love apart,
But you’ve got to believe, I don’t want to break your heart.

You might think I would cry, but I’d like to think I’d stand tall,
And I’d tell her she’s in for a fight, ‘cause you’re mine after all.
Too many years have gone by to give you up now.
I’d tell her that I’ll win you back, someday, somehow.

I wish I had known your answer before I had gone this far.
Well, I know things have got to be different.
(Both) They can’t stay the way that they are.

What would you say, if I told you that I love you still?
No matter how bad things may get, I know I always will.

I’d say that I’m glad, because I still love you, too,
And I’ll even forgive all the pain that you’ve put me through.
