ONE MORE WRONG

She was twenty-one when they first met.
They married at twenty-two.
She told herself that she knew him well
And it seemed like the right thing to do.
The years went by and the children came.
Then the job sometimes took him away.
So she finds herself sitting home alone,
Waiting for the end of the day.

So now she finds that she cries a lot,
Regretting the life that she’s known,
And she tells herself there’s got to be a change
Because she’s tired of being alone.
Now she finds herself in a cheap motel
With a man that she met in a bar.
Then she starts to cry as she tells herself
That maybe she’s gone too far.

But her heart won’t let her stay,
Although he’s miles away.
She’s been alone too long, but somehow tonight
She found that one more wrong won’t make things right.

So she goes back home, and she’s waiting there
When he finally comes through the door.
The he comes to her and he holds her close,
And for a while she is lonely no more.
Then she gives to him a tiny little box
And she places it in his hand.
Then he opens it and he sees inside
The ring that was her wedding band.

You see her heart won’t let her stay.
For too long, he was always away.
Although she wants to go on through life by his side,
She knows that one more wrong won’t make things right.
