UNTIL I GET TO TEXAS

I spend too many days out on the road
Driving from town to town.
I love the job I do, but it’s a heavy load.
My lady’s waiting back at home for me
And it’s starting to get me down.
So I’ve decided tonight I’m going to hit the road.

I’m going to drive all night until I get to Texas.
By tomorrow morning’s light I want to be with her.
The tank is full of gas, so I’m passing up all exits,
And I’m not going to stop until I get to Texas.

It’s been at least a month since I was home
And holding her close.
It’s just not the same talking on the phone.
So I’ll surprise her driving home tonight,
And only heaven knows
That by tomorrow night she won’t be alone.

I just can’t wait to see her face
When I come through the door.
It’s going to be so good to be with her,
And she’ll be so glad to hear me say
I’m not leaving anymore,
Because I can’t stand to be away from her.
