YOU’RE NOT AT HOME

I called you on the telephone
And someone said you weren’t at home,
But I could hear you talking in the back.
The last time I saw you, you said
That you would rather see me dead
And that you’d just as soon not talk to me.

It’s plain to see that you don’t care
To talk to me, even though you’re there,
So they just tell me you are not at home.
But I know someday soon I’ll call
And there’ll be no one else at all
To tell me once again, you’re not home.

You know you’ve treated me like dirt
And down inside I’m really hurt,
But you don’t really seem to care at all.
But listen to me and I’ll say
That I still love you anyway,
And I’ll find some way to make you care again.

You can change the number on your phone
Or have someone say that you’re not at home
But I’ll still find some way to get to you,
And then someday I know you’ll find
You’ll wake up with me on your mind,
And then you’ll realize that I still care.
